MUSE GRIDS: strengthening local energy communities

Launched in November 2018, the EU-funded research project MUSE GRIDS aims to transform weakly connected areas into local energy communities where citizens' engagement will meet their energy needs, while reducing their carbon footprint.
MUSE GRIDS includes the development of two large-scale pilot projects in Italy and Belgium and includes partners from universities, research centres and leading EU energy companies. It is a research project that through a participatory approach, the project encourages the active involvement of inhabitants in pilot projects, with the aim of developing local energy communities where citizens can work together to produce and exchange energy for greater reliability.
To achieve this, the two large-scale pilot projects have been implemented in different European contexts where there are weak connections with the national network: Oud-Heverlee, a rural district in the Flanders region of Belgium and Osimo, a hilly town in the Marche region in Italy.

What are the project goals?
MUSE GRIDS aims to demonstrate that in two weakly connected areas a series of technological solutions such as electricity networks, district heating and cooling networks are installed, water networks, gas networks and electric mobility that allow adequate energy sustainability. Scame made its contribution by installing in Osimo in June 2022 a charging station for electric vehicles in direct current with V2G technology (Vehicle To Grid).
What is V2G?
It a technology that allows the electric vehicle to give power to the grid. We often hear the question of whether energy will be enough to charge all electric vehicles, we know that energy production will not be a problem, but it could be for the distribution network. The V2G shifts the electric vehicle from problem to solution. The station installed in Osimo is connected to the management platforms is able to recharge the vehicle with powers of 40 kW and 10 kW discharge.

November 2022: Muse Grid project awarded EUSEW 2022
The MUSE GRIDS project, which involved Scame Parre as a technological partner, was awarded with the "European Sustainable Energy Award 2022" in the "Innovation" category. SCAME PARRE has made available its technological know-how for the construction of a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles that can take advantage of the benefits of Vehicle To Grid to maximize energy independence thanks to an optimized management of the production.
The MUSE GRIDS consortium consists of 18 partners from 7 countries, including universities, research centres and leading companies in the EU energy sector. The four-year project started in November 2018 and is funded under the Horizon 2020 framework "LC-SC3-ES-3-2018-2020 Integrated local energy systems" (financing agreement No. 824441).
